Last month we reported on the upcoming postage increase at Deutsche Post. The new prices are now dry. The Federal Network Agency has now granted the previously valid approval for the new fee structure.
If you need to send a paper that has been printed out in the traditional way instead of emails, higher prices will apply from January 1st. You then have to pay 95 cents for the standard letter that previously cost 85 cents. According to Deutsche Post, the standard letter is the letter product most frequently used by private customers. Before the upcoming price increase, the price had been stable for three years.
Letter prices from January 1, 2025
The postage increase in 2025 will be particularly significant for postcards. Here the post office is adding a whopping 25 percent and will in future charge 95 cents per shipment. Meanwhile, the maxi letter is only five percent more expensive, and additional services such as registered mail remain unchanged in price.
The bottom line is that the Federal Network Agency has provided Deutsche Post with room for price increases of an average of 9.85 percent for the products included in the universal service. The postal service complains that this is clearly not enough, as it has had to absorb significantly higher additional expenses due to the significant cost increases in recent years. In addition to inflation, the post office also contributes to this, rising wages and, last but not least, the constantly declining volume of letters.
Packages are also becoming more expensive
From next year onwards you will also have to pay more at the post office for the transport of parcels and parcels. The cheapest package S then costs 4.19 euros instead of 3.99 euros. The package, which is only available online and weighs a maximum of two kilograms, increases in price from 5.49 euros to 6.19 euros and for the cheapest store package (up to 5 kg) you will now pay 7.69 euros instead of 6.99 euros.
