At around 3:17 p.m., a serious accident was reported to the police at the B40 Kaiserstrasse/Breslauer Strasse intersection. According to initial information, a Ford pickup came from the city center and collided with a BMW that was turning from the direction of Eschberg.
The pickup crashed into the passenger side. The front of the massive truck was destroyed and the small car hurled a few meters further. Three ambulances and the emergency doctor were there to treat the injured. The passenger in the BMW had to be rescued as quickly as possible using hydraulic tools after prying open the driver's door. “The male passenger suffered serious injuries and was taken straight to the shock room at the Winterberg Clinic.
“It cannot currently be said whether there is a risk to life,” said the head of operations for the Saarbrücken city police. The BMW driver and the Ford driver were each slightly injured and taken to nearby clinics. Both vehicles were totaled. The height of the shadow is currently unknown. There are currently various witness statements regarding the accident.
There is currently no evidence that drivers are unfit to drive. An appointed expert must now clarify the exact cause of the accident. A red light violation at the traffic light intersection also needs to be clarified. A massive backlog has formed from Scheidt, from the city center and from the direction of Saarbasar. The police are currently directing traffic past the scene of the accident using hand signals. The closure of the road in the direction of Scheidt will take a long time. Around 25 helpers from the fire department, police and rescue services were on duty. The police divert traffic heading out of the city from Brebacher Landstrasse. From the intersection area there is currently no access to the gas station up to Halberg.
