There are some innovations in the 2024/25 Europa League season compared to previous seasons. It will be played in one mode: According to the plan for the new season, there will now be a common new league instead of a group phase. Increased to 36 teams, the teams in the new EL season will face eight different opponents in the preliminary round. Each club has four home games guaranteed – and has to play away four times.
The top eight in the final table of this league automatically qualify for the round of 16. Their respective opponents will be determined in playoff games, awarded from places 9 to 24. All teams that are in 25th to 36th place after the 8th match day will say goodbye to the competition. For all teams that made it to the round of 16, the games up to the final will take place as usual in a knockout phase.
