The winning photos of the “European Nature Photographer of the Year” competition can be seen for the first time: The German Horse Museum Verden is showing the best images from 38 countries in an exhibition.

Around 18,000 photos were submitted to the competition in 2024, and the best 100 were awarded by the international jury at the end of October. For the first time since the award ceremony, the photographs can now be seen by the public in an exhibition. The German Horse Museum will present the winning images of the competition until March 9, 2025. Visitors can expect the entire spectrum of nature photography: “From unseen behaviors, rare species, intimate animal portraits, dreamy plant images to a critical examination of the concerns of nature and species protection,” says the German Horse Museum.

This year's winner and therefore “European Nature Photographer of the Year 2024” is the Spaniard Jaime Rojo. He impressed the jury with the insect painting “In the Forest of Monarchs,” which is also exhibited in the German Horse Museum. The other photographs also show “a yawning flying fox, a beewolf on the prey flight, a flamingo in the morning light, bull elephants at the waterhole, an octopus on its next dive at the bottom of the sea, a larch forest in the thick fog, the play of sand and wind in the Sahara “, glowing lava lakes and jagged glaciers,” says the city of Verden.

The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until March 9th. Entry to the exhibition is included in the museum admission price of five euros for adults and two euros for children (5-17 years).
