SoundCloud and Amazon Alexa: A look into the future
With the streaming subscriptions SoundCloud Go and SoundCloud Go+, the music platform popular with DJs has launched two paid offers. In contrast to established players such as Spotify and Apple Music, you cannot stream your music directly via Alexa with the service. The reason is simple.
Not yet possible directly via the app
The music streaming services that can be linked directly in the Alexa app can be counted on one hand, which is why many offers are not directly compatible with the Amazon voice assistant. Unfortunately, this also means that with a SoundCloud Go subscription, WiFi-based Alexa functions such as streaming on freely groupable speaker groups are not yet available to you.
As an alternative, you can pair with individual Echo speakers via Bluetooth until SoundCloud Go is implemented directly into the Alexa ecosystem. We'll show you how your music streaming services are linked to individual Alexa speakers via Bluetooth in the linked instructions.
Stream for free on the Echo
You can test SoundCloud Go for free and listen to it for free via the Echo speaker – but for different lengths of time: For the cheaper, basic version of SoundCloud Go, which has a limited track selection, there is only a one-week option, and for the premium subscription, SoundCloud Go+ with higher sound quality a one-month trial period.
SoundCloud and Amazon Alexa: A look into the future
Now the question is legitimate as to whether Amazon Alexa will ever be compatible with SoundCloud. Even if Amazon has not confirmed this, the American company apparently does not have much interest in it.
With Amazon Music, the provider has its own music streaming service. Accordingly, the provider probably only wants to make so few external services suitable for Amazon Alexa. Currently you can only connect the large and well-known providers such as Spotify and Apple Music via the Amazon Alexa app. Unfortunately, it remains unlikely that SoundCloud will be controllable via the voice assistant in the near future.
