On the night of December 12th around 3:30 a.m., a break-in into a van on Rue de Beringen in Mersch was reported to the police. The suspects fled south towards France in another vehicle before the officers arrived, according to a press release from the Grand-Ducale Police on Thursday afternoon. However, a police patrol was able to locate the getaway car after some time and gave chase.
Shortly after crossing the French border, however, the officers lost visual contact with the suspects' vehicle, which is why they were forced to break off the pursuit. French officials were informed and an investigation was launched.
There was another chase that crossed the border that same night. According to the statement, the Grand-Ducale Police were informed by their Belgian colleagues about a driver who had evaded control by Belgian officials on the E25, whereupon the pursuit was initiated. Despite clear stop signs and blue lights, the driver fled across the border into Luxembourg. At Mamer, however, he stopped on the hard shoulder and fled on foot into an adjacent forest. The search launched by Luxembourg officials was unsuccessful.
