According to the information, the police recorded a total of 17,007 cases of hate crime nationwide in 2023. Around 18 percent of the hate crime cases registered against members of this group in 2023 were crimes in which violence played a role.
According to the information, the number of cases registered by the police increased by around 50 percent last year. Crimes are classified as politically motivated hate crimes in the sense of statistics if, taking into account the circumstances of the crime and the attitude of the perpetrator, there are indications that they were committed due to prejudice, for example based on nationality, ethnic origin, sexual orientation or gender Identity.
The situation report shows that the victims of crimes against people who belong to the LGBTIQ* group are predominantly men. According to the BKA, 808 of the 1,052 suspects identified last year were German, although dual nationals are only counted as German in the statistics.
