Saarbrücken – On the night of Saturday to Sunday, December 15, 2024, there was a fire in the underground car park of the City Parking Garage in Dudweiler. At around 1:10 a.m., the automatic fire alarm system triggered an alarm, whereupon the emergency services from Dudweiler fire district 18 and the professional fire department were alerted.
Unlike many false alarms, this time it is an emergency. As soon as the first firefighters arrived, thick smoke came from the underground car park, accompanied by audible banging noises – a clear sign of a vehicle brand. The automatic sprinkler system had already been triggered and supported the first measures.
The fire brigade immediately began a targeted extinguishing attack. Three troops wearing respiratory protection entered the smoke-filled underground car park and fought the flames. Thanks to the quick deployment, the extinguishing measures have a quick effect. Due to the heavy smoke, additional ventilation devices were used to remove smoke from the underground car park and improve visibility.
When temperatures are freezing, the emergency services from the Dudweiler firefighting district set up a heated rapid response tent to offer the firefighters protection from the cold during hygiene measures and breaks. The operation lasted until the early hours of the morning.
Luckily no one was injured. The affected vehicle was a total loss and the building was also significantly affected. The cause of the fire is still unclear and is currently being investigated by the police.
A total of around 40 fire departments with eleven vehicles were on duty. An ambulance from the rescue service provided medical support to the scene. The police were also on site with several units to coordinate the investigation. Subscribe to the Blue Light Report Saarland WhatsApp channel NOW and ALWAYS stay up to date directly (click here)
