Remedy Entertainment has released update 1.2.7 for its survival horror game Alan Wake 2. The new patch primarily brings important adjustments to the PS5 Pro, including new graphics modes and the ability to turn Sony's PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) on or off. In addition, the update fixes some bugs and ensures an improved gaming experience on all platforms.
PSSR toggle and new balanced mode option
One of the biggest innovations concerns the AI upscaling technology PSSR, which is intended to ensure sharper images and more details. Remedy now allows players to manually turn this feature on or off. The background is that PSSR does not always deliver the desired results. Ubisoft also offers a similar option with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which shows that the technology is not yet optimally implemented everywhere. In addition to the PSSR toggle, Remedy is introducing a new balanced mode for PS5 Pro players. This requires displays with 120 Hz and combines the higher quality quality mode graphics (including ray tracing) with the higher resolution of the performance mode. The goal is a stable frame rate of 40 fps, which ensures a better balance between image quality and smooth gameplay. This option is an added value, especially for gamers who place great value on visual quality, and noticeably improves the PS5 Pro experience.
Performance improvements and bug fixes
Performance mode has also been adjusted to ensure a consistent frame rate. In addition, Remedy has improved the ray tracing settings in Quality and Balanced modes to reduce annoying image noise and sharpen the overall visual representation. Some errors have also been fixed; in The Lake House area, for example, problems with manuscript collectibles and missing audio output in certain videos have been corrected. Further minor optimizations round off the update and improve the overall stability of the game. You can read about these in the patch notes for update 1.2.7.
With Update 1.2.7, Remedy delivers important improvements for PS5 Pro users and increases control over graphics and performance. Together with the bug fixes, the update ensures that the gaming experience in Alan Wake 2 is further optimized and the game becomes more stable on all platforms.
