James Gunn's Superman will finally be released next summer, and while we've been hearing about this film for a long time, there are still plenty of details to share. Recently, James Gunn spoke about what we could expect from the film and revealed some minor details about the plot.
Speaking to Collider, Gunn revealed that the film “starts in the middle of the action. Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman's courage from the start, even though they don't know each other personally. So we start in the middle of the action. It takes place over a short period of time. “
Not wanting to give away any more plot details, Gunn moved on to talk about how the flight sequences were filmed. Not wanting to go full CGI, Gunn instead used a technique from Top Gun: Maverick. “We shoot a lot of our action with real drones flying in and around Superman and the people he's flying with, engineers or whoever he's fighting in the air. And we did that on sound stages. Now we have these really small, crazy drones. We have some of the best aviators in the world here working with it.
Don't expect too much humor because Gunn says: “It's humorous, but it's certainly not as funny or as much of a comedy as Suicide Squad or Guardians. There's a lot of humor in it. People like Rachel.” [Brosnahan] are so funny and David [Corenswet] is also very funny, so there's humor in it, but it's about creating something that's grounded, but it's also an incredibly imaginative world.
“This is fantasy,” Führerfort. “It takes on other things like Game of Thrones, where it's this universe where superheroes actually exist. What are they like? There’s a magic there that can’t be denied.”
Superman premieres on July 11, 2025. We're expecting a trailer soon, so keep your eyes peeled for when it drops.
