Leipzig Christmas Market: From mulled wine seller to pawn pirate

Leipzig – How bold: A former employee of a mulled wine stand appeared on the Leipziger Christmas market enriched on a large scale at the cup deposit. Unfortunately for him, his former boss recognized the man.

“He alerted the police on Wednesday evening around 6:20 p.m.,” said spokesman Moritz Peters on Thursday. Accordingly, he noticed how his former employee was “selling” mulled wine cups at the market in the center of Leipzig.

These are the same at many stands; when you buy a hot drink, you have to pay a deposit of between four and five euros.

And so the 54-year-old accused went from stand to stand with probably dozens of cups and handed them over in order to collect the deposit.

It's just a shame that the cups were stolen from a deposit store last week.

When the police spoke to the man, he admitted that he had sold the cups at various stalls. How many there were and how much money the 54-year-old has already stolen is still unknown.

However, it seems clear that he wanted to sell a few more. “When asked, he agreed to a search of his apartment, where additional boxes containing a small three-digit number of Christmas market bags were found,” Peters continued.

The police are investigating fraud and theft against the Christmas market crook.
