There were rumors about Smallville It has been running as an animated series for several years now, and as we write these lines, it seems that the series is no closer to becoming a reality.
Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum are still committed to making the sequel a reality, and Welling provided an update (via KSiteTV) during his appearance at the Terrificon convention in Connecticut last weekend.
“We have been talking about it for several years,” Welling thanked the fans in his speech. “We want to do a Smallville comic and an animated series and then we would all lend our voices to the characters. We already have an artist and a poster.”
“We couldn't reveal it yet, but Lionel Luthor is hovering over everyone, and that's really cool. But we just can't do anything without DC saying we can do it,” he continued. “They just haven’t given us the green light, but we are ready, and Al [Gough] and miles [Millar]who wrote Smallville wants to write it, but it's not ours until they say we can do it.”
It sounds like it is up to James Gunn and DC Studios to make this happen, although Welling later admitted that a Smallville The revival is unlikely to be a major cash grab for Warner Bros. Discovery.
“It would be more of a labor of love,” he said. “It’s not going to make a billion dollars, so the studio is kind of [grumbles]. Maybe we can start a – not a GoFundMe campaign, because that's a financial one – but some kind of petition. We can ask Warner Bros. to let us do this.”
While Smallville had a pretty definitive ending (and one where Welling decided against putting on the Superman costume), comic books have Since then, another novel has been published that continues Clark Kent's story, but he may be interested in revisiting the hero's story for another reason.
During a surprise cameo appearance in The CWs Crisis on parallel earths Crossover, we learned that Welling's Superman had given up his powers for some reason to focus on his wife and family. Fans of Smallville were not happy and apparently Welling wasn’t either.
“I don’t know if that’s really the Clark from Smallville,” The actor told fans: “Because it's a multiverse, so you never know. And I don't know how he lost his powers. Nobody ever told me.”
“Tom and I are working on a Smallville animated series that we want to realize. That will take some time,” said Michael Rosenbaum earlier this summer. “But the people behind Smallville are there, they want to be a part of it. And we, you know, when the time is right, we will introduce it.”
He added: “We're working on it and have some loose animations that we've been working on. [on] with someone who was just great. It looks great. So if we can do that, that would be great.”
Stay tuned for updates on Smallville's future as we have it.
