Host reports on diagnosis – This is what happens next with Germany's most popular true crime podcast

– The successful German podcast “Mordlust” is not only taking a winter break, but after that there will be a format change – for reasons of illness.

Paulina Krasa and Laura Wohlers are regularly at the top of the German podcast charts with their format “Mordlust”. The 181st episode of their true crime podcast was released on Wednesday. Since 2018, the two have actually been telling each other a true story about crime, now even on a weekly basis. But shortly before the winter break, the hosts had to announce a change that caused a lot of reactions on all platforms.

Some of the loyal “Mordlust” listeners already had a premonition when the arena tour for November 2024 had to be canceled by the hosts due to illness. “Oh dear, if it becomes clear in September that November dates cannot take place due to illness, it must be something serious,” wrote one concerned fan on Instagram at the time.

And actually: On December 18th, Paulina Krasa and Laura Wohlers announced in the last ten minutes of their current episode that one of them would have to step back significantly in 2025. “The thing is, I got a diagnosis this year and am currently undergoing treatment,” says presenter Laura Wohlers. At this point it is not possible to predict when this treatment will be over and she will be “physically able to be on stage again,” she reports, but does not go into further detail. According to the hosts, there will be no new dates for their live show for the time being. However, the tickets would remain valid.

For this reason, presenter Laura Wohlers will no longer be heard alongside Paulina Krasa every episode. Every other week they will then take part in the episode together with an expert. The fans of the successful podcast commented on lots of well wishes and encouragement, but also expressed their concerns. “What sad news. Laura, I wish you lots of strength for your treatments! Thank you for your openness,” one could read on Instagram, for example. The changed format will continue from January 15, 2025.
