Yesterday, December 21st, the time had come: the shortest day of the year reminded us how deep into winter we are. The sun reached its lowest point and darkness dominated with almost 16 hours of night. But starting today, the light is gradually returning – a small but symbolic turning point that gives us hope for spring.
Although the days are now getting longer again, it will still be some time before this is really noticeable. The increase in daylight initially only occurs in tiny steps. Only in the new year, when the sun continues its climb into the sky, will the bright hours noticeably increase. Until then, winter will remain our companion – with all its dark evenings and long nights.
But darkness also has its charms: now is the time for comfort and warmth. Whether with oven-baked cheese, mulled wine or hot tea – the cold, long nights invite you to make yourself really comfortable inside. Evenings together with family and friends, candlelight and the anticipation of the coming holidays make the winter time something special.
And don't forget: Christmas and New Year are just around the corner. The holidays offer an opportunity to pause, celebrate and prepare for the new year with positive thoughts. With the knowledge that the days are getting longer again, we can say goodbye to the trough of darkness and look forward to the growing light.
