Apple Music users can transfer their playlist to YouTube Music and vice versa
Apple Music users can now switch to another music streaming app, but unsurprisingly, the same does not apply to Spotify.
Apple Music users love the platform for its features and the Apple experience, but if you're looking to explore other platforms, now is the time. For the first time, Apple Music users have an official way to switch to YouTube Music or vice versa.
Apple and Google have been warming up to deals like this lately, and the two music streaming apps are a sign of their latest collaboration. The switch is only possible between these two apps, so if you were looking to become a Spotify convert, you're out of luck.
Transfer Apple Music to YouTube Music – How it works
Apple Music users can transfer their playlist, but there are many files that you cannot move to YouTube Music. Before getting into that, here are the steps you can follow to switch from Apple's streaming app to YouTube Music.
– Go to Apple’s data and privacy page
– Sign in to your Apple ID account
– Click Transfer a copy of your data
– Follow the further steps and complete the transfer request
– Sign in to your YouTube account in the Music app now
Apple will send you a notification on the registered email ID highlighting the transfer in progress. The company will also confirm when the transfer is complete
Once these steps are completed, the Apple Music playlist will also appear in the YouTube Music library. The platform explains that transferring songs only works if the song is available in both apps. The updates in one playlist will not appear in the other app after the transfer. In case you cancel the transfer in the middle, the songs that have already been moved will also appear in the other app.
Apple also stresses that you will only be able to transfer playlists during the process, you won't be able to go through music files, and even non-collaborative playlists will be available in the app. And yes, it goes without saying that you will need an active subscription to Apple Music and YouTube Music to transfer.
