“F1” by Joseph Kosinski is one of the most anticipated and probably most expensive films of the next year. Filming began in July 2023 – and has finally come to an end a full 16 months later.
The team behind the racing driver film with Brad Pitt has themselves to blame for the fact that film fans have astronomical expectations of “F1”. Ultimately, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Joseph Kosinski not only cast one of the biggest Hollywood stars ever in the roles, but with their last collaboration they created a cinema experience that was euphorically celebrated by fans and the trade press. We are of course talking about “Top Gun: Maverick”.
And now there's another high-speed rush on the horizon – only with Pitt instead of Tom Cruise. Who doesn't sit in the cockpit of a fighter jet, but behind the wheel of a Formula 1 car. As has now become known, “F1” is finally in the can after filming started in July 2023. That reports die New York Times.
Filming ends at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix took place last Sunday. Lando Norris took victory for McLaren, alongside him on the podium were Carlos Sainz (2nd place) and Charles Leclerc (3rd place). The highlight of the story: After the race, a second winner's ceremony was filmed – for the film with Brad Pitt!
In order to film the final shots for “F1,” the audience was asked to stay in their seats a little longer – and in this way become, so to speak, extras for the Hollywood film. A very obvious option because, unlike other films, you don't have to rely on CGI crowds. At least since “Maverick” we finally know how important director Kosinski is about realism in his films.
“F1” in cinemas from June 26, 2025
With a rumored budget of an impressive $300 million, “F1” will be one of the most expensive films of all time – which will be shown on German screens in just over half a year. The cinema release is on June 26, 2025.
For a production of this size, that initially sounds like a pretty tight schedule. And yet there is a good chance that the deadline can actually be met in the end. Because: “About two-thirds of the film has already been edited,” says Jerry Bruckheimer in the course of an interview (via New York Times).
In any case, we can hardly wait to experience the story of a former racing driver who gets back into the cockpit in the cinema. The flight sequences in “Top Gun: Maverick” are among the most immersive moments in recent cinema history. And the trailer above promises a similarly thrilling spectacle.
