These are the current cases under “File number XY… Unsolved”

“File number XY… Unsolved” said goodbye to the screens for six weeks on Wednesday evening. What cases is the last episode of the year about?

“Case number XY… Unsolved” said goodbye to the screens for six weeks on Wednesday evening – but not without introducing the winners of the 2024 XY Prize.

On December 11th, ZDF will show a new edition of the true crime magazine “Aktenzeichen XY… Unsolved” at 8:15 p.m. Presenter Rudi Cerne asks the TV audience one last time this year for help in solving open criminal cases.

The focus of the manhunt program is on four cold cases in which the perpetrators have not yet been caught. As always, the criminal police hope for possible clues from the viewers.

Cold cases reopened

One case goes back particularly far: more than 35 years ago, a woman's body was found in a former quarry. The identity of the victim remained unclear and the search for clues proved unsuccessful. Will we still be able to solve the mystery surrounding the dead woman after all this time?

Another feature film is about a brutal robbery: When a man refuses to make further withdrawals from an ATM to an armed duo, one of the gangsters pulls the trigger.

There is also a bloody attack in a jewelry store. An unknown man storms into the store and stabs the owner. For a young man, a carefree evening at the folk festival ends with a fatal and momentous encounter.

Awarded for moral courage

In addition to those responsible for the police department, Cerne also welcomed very special guests to the TV studio this time: The winners of this year's XY Prize ceremony reported on the difficult situations in which they demonstrated moral courage.

The prize has been awarded since 2002 under the patronage of the Federal Minister of the Interior. The winners in 2024 were Emma Hufnagel, Maika Janat-Vennemann and Elvira Bunzel from the Wetterau district, Leon Jamal Zeid, Mohamed Ibrahim, Ahmad Faour, Argjend Klimenta and Kiana Frede from the Sulingen area and Andreas Bichert from Langenau near Ulm.

“Case number XY… Unsolved” will be broadcast live as usual and will then also be available in the ZDFmediathek. In the new year, the long-running TV hit will be back with the next cases on January 22nd.
