Microsoft has released the monthly updates for Windows 10 and Windows 11. These are the security-related updates, the last ones this year. Let's start with Windows 10. The update affects versions 21H2 and 22H2 (KB5048652), 1809 (KB5048661), 1607 (KB5048671) and the original version 1507 (KB5048703).
The new update builds on update KB5046714 released in November and closes several security vulnerabilities in the operating system. Microsoft recommends that all users install it to ensure the security of their systems.
For the current version 22H2, the update mainly focuses on security-related improvements. The developers have increased system stability and closed known vulnerabilities.
Let's move on to Windows 11. Update KB5048667 has been provided for the current version 24H2, while users of versions 22H2 and 23H2 will receive update KB5048685. The updates mainly focus on security improvements to the operating system.
The update for version 24H2 includes various security optimizations to the internal operating system functions. Security issues have also been fixed in the older versions 22H2 and 23H2. The new updates also include the improvements from the November 21 update KB5046740.
Microsoft points out that due to the holidays and the upcoming New Year, no optional update without security features will be released in December 2024. Regular monthly updates, both security and optional previews, will resume in January 2025.
Interested users can find detailed information about the fixed security gaps in the Microsoft Security Update Guide. As usual, the updates will now be distributed via the Windows Update function of the operating system. Administrators can also download and install the updates manually via the Microsoft Update Catalog. With this in mind: Happy update and a stable computer at all times!
