Based on a court order, 14 properties in Schleswig-Holstein were searched on Tuesday. This is reported by the Schleswig Public Prosecutor's Office. The accusation: illegal gambling.
Around 270 emergency services searched a total of 14 objects in Kiel, Neumünster and Flensburg in the afternoon. The emergency services seize evidence such as computers, cell phones and data storage devices as well as a six-figure sum of money. The operation was a result of investigations following a raid in Kiel-Gaarden last year, said Deputy Prosecutor General Georg-Friedrich Güntge.
Attorney General: Action is directed against backers
According to Güntge, the public prosecutor's office conducted an intensive investigation and evaluated everything they found at the time. “This is now an action that is directed against those behind it, not against the people who set up the machines back then.” The aim is therefore to combat organized crime and its structures. “That was step number two. We went one level higher,” explains Güntge. According to the Attorney General, there were no sanctions for the operation.
That's why illegal gambling is also a problem in SH
Gambling is permitted in Schleswig-Holstein, but only with official permission. This emerges from the state gambling treaty in the country. The problem: Illegally set up machines are not checked. According to the Association of the German Vending Machine Industry, every device must be tested and certified. Unlike the legal variants tested, illegal devices sometimes have no youth and player protection and no addiction prevention. The risk of becoming addicted to gambling is therefore increased.
