This update provides clarity on the products

AVM had already announced at the IFA in late summer that something serious would change with the Berlin-based company's products. There was less intention of changing the tried and tested name of the FritzBox. Rather, they wanted to tidy up the portfolio of FritzDECT devices. This was apparently too technical for AVM. At the same time, the product names were not very self-explanatory.

These are the new names for FritzDECT devices

To date, AVM has subsumed FritzDECT 302, FritzDECT 210 and FritzDECT 350 under FritzDECT. However, behind the seemingly identical products, which all communicate with the FritzBox via DECT, there are completely different devices. FritzDECT 302 is a heating thermostat, FritzDECT 210 is a switching socket (smart plug) for outdoor use and FritzDECT 350 is a door/window contact.

But now AVM is cleaning up as announced. The indoor switch socket, previously FritzDECT 200, is now FritzSmart Energy 200. The name describes that it is about electricity. The same applies to the FritzDECT 210 outdoor socket, which is now called FritzSmart Energy 210. The FritzDECT 302 heating thermostat is called FritzSmart Thermo 302 and indicates directly that it is located in the heating area. The FritzDECT 350 door-window contact is now called FritzSmart Control 350.

A software update that is installed on the devices ensures that devices that have already been sold also have the new name. This should mean that existing customers also know clearly which devices they use. It is to be expected that packaging with the old name will continue to be sold. Replacing all devices in stores and warehouses simply because of the changed name would hardly be economical and sustainable for AVM. For new customers, the update definitely provides clarity as to which smart home area a product is located in.

By the way, the updates now available also occasionally bring new functions. This is what the FritzSmart Control 350 says, it now receives status signaling through the status LED flashing briefly when opening and closing the window.
