Bolzano – The police were called to a public bar on Waltherplatz in Bolzano on Tuesday evening via the state emergency number 112. A drunk harassed both the owner and the guests of the bar.

Several police officers and a carabiniere, who was on duty at the nearby Christmas market, rushed to the scene. The man was visibly upset. When he saw the law enforcement officers, he slapped one police officer in the face and kicked a second one with his foot.

Given the man's aggressiveness, the officers used pepper spray. After they put him in the patrol car, he completely freaked out. With violent kicks he smashed a window of the patrol car. The young man, who was identified as a 24-year-old from Bolzano VL, already has a criminal record – including for family abuse and drug trafficking.

He was placed under arrest for resisting state authority and serious damage to property. A summary judgment awaits him now.

In view of the violence that was shown, Quaestor Paolo Sartori has issued a two-year ban on entry to public places in Bolzano.
