The UEFA Champions League has no longer been broadcast on Sky since the 2021/22 season. The broadcast rights now lie exclusively with DAZN and Amazon, with DAZN broadcasting the lion's share of the games. In addition to DAZN and Amazon as well as the final, which is also broadcast by ZDF, some games can also be watched for free on free TV from abroad using cheap VPN subscriptions.
You can find out which teams want to play and where these games will be broadcast in this article.
Watch Champions League 2024/25 quickly for free with a VPN
Officially, you can see all other games on the streaming provider DAZN until the top Champions League game on Tuesday, which will be broadcast by Amazon Prime. After a further price increase, the DAZN Unlimited offer is available from 29.99 euros per month as an annual subscription or in the variant, which you can cancel monthly, for 44.99 euros. Unlike Amazon Prime, the free trial month or the 99 cent version was canceled in the first month at DAZN.
The only way to get it much cheaper is via VPN. If games are shown on foreign free TV, they can via a VPN for free be streamed. You get a VPN provider for around 2 euros per month.

Here you can see the UEFA Champions League officially in Germany
After 21 years, the broadcast of the European premier class on the pay-TV channel Sky ended for the time being. You can now officially see the majority of games in Germany via the sports streaming service DAZN. DAZN shows all 186 and one party per week, which the shipping giant Amazon secures. The top game on Tuesday will be shown by Amazon Prime Video – this game will then be made available as a highlight compilation for the next day. The complete game is available on each Friday. The final, which will be held in Munich in the 24/25 season, will be broadcast in parallel by DAZN and ZDF on May 31, 2025 – regardless of whether a German team is involved.
The UEFA Champions League and other football on DAZN: In addition to the expanded DAZN Unlimited offering, subscribers will see a price increase. The new prices are 29.99 euros per month for an annual subscription or 359.88 euros annually – the monthly cancelable version costs 44.99 euros. DAZN, unlike Amazon Prime, has unfortunately discontinued the option of a 30-day free trial period and the 99 cent trial version in the first month has also been completely canceled.
In addition to the UEFA Champions League, you can see many other sports broadcasts on DAZN, such as parts of the Bundesliga. The streaming provider has expanded its offering overall for the 2024/25 season. While a total of “only” 40 games were previously broadcast on Friday and Monday evenings as well as the early Sunday games, 106 Bundesliga matches will now be shown, which can be seen in the live stream and TV on DAZN. With a few exceptions, the Bundesliga on Friday and Sunday runs entirely on DAZN and not on free TV or other pay TV channels.
DAZN: from 29.99 euros per month
The UEFA Champions League on Amazon Prime: As already mentioned, you can see the top game on Tuesday on Amazon Prime Video. Amazon customers with a Prime membership will see these games as part of their membership at no additional charge. Interested parties have the opportunity to test the membership free of charge for 30 days. Otherwise, Prime membership on Amazon costs 8.99 euros per month or 89.90 euros per year.
Amazon Prime: Try it free for 30 days now
For the full annual price of at least 449.78 euros, for the combination of the annual subscriptions to Amazon Prime and DAZN, you will never miss a UEFA Champions League game again. In addition, the DAZN offer attracts football enthusiasts with other sports broadcasts such as the UEFA Women's Champions League, parts of the Bundesliga, the Spanish league, the Copa del Rey, the US MLS and other events.
You can watch games cheaper with a VPN
The rights for the UEFA Champions League are quite expensive. This means that the games will soon only be available to watch for a fee. There are exceptions, however, due to the extensive geoblocking of the Champions League, these require a detour via a VPN.
NordVPN from 3.59 euros/month
Some games will also be shown on free TV abroad. For example, the Austrian broadcaster ServusTV broadcasts summaries of the Champions League, the Europa League and the newly founded Europa Conference League on free TV. And of course, a few other channels from other countries show the Champions League games, which channels broadcast the respective game can be viewed on platforms such as Livesoccer.tv.
Unfortunately, due to a country block, you cannot easily view these broadcasts, for example via live streams. However, with a VPN – like those from NordVPN or Cyberghost – you can easily bypass this country ban and save yourself a lot of money.
Champions League 2024/25 with new league mode and play-off phase
League phase: The group stage of the Champions League is the final story, from 2024/25 all 36 teams will be part of a common league. Instead of facing three opponents in the home and away games, each participant plays one game against eight opponents, each playing four times at home and four times away. The opponents were drawn using a computer.
This means that there are now a whopping 144 instead of the previous 96 preliminary round games. And 40 of them will take place this season with German participation.
Play-off phase: As soon as the league phase ends, the best eight teams qualify directly for the round of 16. The teams in places 9 to 16 will play in play-offs against the teams in places 17 to 24 for the further eight round of 16 tickets. The teams in places 25 to 36 will split straight away and will not be relegated to the European Cup competition.
Final: In the round of 16, the eight directly qualified teams will meet the winners of the knockout round play-offs.
The entire final rounds already have a fixed tournament tree in advance and therefore no longer have a classic draw. These teams are drawn into different halves of the tournament, so that the first team can meet the second team in the final at the earliest.
As usual, all rounds up to the final will be played in home and away games. Teams from the same league can meet each other from the round of 16 onwards.
