Apple: MacOS update confirms MacBook Air 13 and 15 with M4

Apple has released MacOS Sequoia 15.2, which has a surprise. Because the update contains new information on upcoming MacBook Air with Apple's M4 SOC. Apple has also released the update for two Macs that are not yet available.

Unpublished MacBook Air in the code

And so an error in the latest version of MacOS Sequoia 15.2 unintentionally revealed the MacBook Air, which was already an open secret, with M4. The update contains loud Macrumors Software files for devices with the names “Mac16,12” and “Mac16.13”, which indicate a 13-inch and 15-inch model of the MacBook Air with Apple's upcoming M4 chip. But that's not all, because a date is also mentioned, since the information “MacBook Air (13-inch, M4, 2025)” and “MacBook Air (15-inch, M4, 2025)” is included. According to the code, both models should appear in 2025.

The information confirms previous speculations that Apple is planning to equip the next generation of its MacBook-Air series with the M4 chip. Industry insiders suspect that the new notebooks could come onto the market in spring 2025, probably between March and June. It could also indicate that the new models are already included in the code of the latest update that Apple will bring the new MacBook Air onto the market earlier than expected in early 2025.

No design changes expected

According to current reports, there will be no major design changes in the new MacBook Air models. The focus of the revision is mainly on the more powerful M4 chip. This is intended to improve the computing power and energy efficiency of the devices after the new SOC has already arrived in the MacBook Pro with 14 and 16 inches and also offers a convincing performance in the new Mac Mini (test).
