Apple has released macOS Sequoia 15.2, which has a surprise in store. Because the update contains new information about the upcoming MacBook Air with Apple's M4 SoC. Apple has also released the update for two Macs that are not yet available.
Unreleased MacBook Air in code
And so a bug in the latest version of macOS Sequoia 15.2 unintentionally revealed the MacBook Air with M4, which was already an open secret. The update contains loud MacRumors Software files for devices labeled “Mac16,12” and “Mac16,13” indicate a 13-inch and a 15-inch model of MacBook Air with Apple's upcoming M4 chip. But that's not all, because a date is also mentioned, as the code contains the information “MacBook Air (13-inch, M4, 2025)” and “MacBook Air (15-inch, M4, 2025)”. According to the code, both models should appear in 2025.
The information confirms previous speculation that Apple plans to equip the next generation of its MacBook Air series with the M4 chip. Industry insiders suspect that the new notebooks could come onto the market in spring 2025, probably between March and June. The fact that the new models are already included in the code of the latest update could also indicate that Apple will bring the new MacBook Air onto the market earlier than expected in early 2025.
No design changes expected
According to current reports, there will be no major design changes to the new MacBook Air models. The focus of the revision is mainly on the more powerful M4 chip. This is intended to improve the computing power and energy efficiency of the devices, after the new SoC has already found its way into the MacBook Pro with 14 and 16 inches and also offers convincing performance in the new Mac mini (test).
