Neunkirchen – (Image gallery at the end of the article) On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, December 12, 2024, an accident was reported on the L128 country road between Wemmetsweiler and Stennweiler in the Neunkirchen district. At around 1:00 a.m., passing drivers spotted a VW that had left the road and was stuck in a ditch. The car was wedged in the mud and a small stream, while the road at the scene of the accident was very dirty.
When police arrived, officers found the vehicle empty. The driver's door of the car could no longer be opened, which is why the driver probably fled through the passenger door. A search that was launched immediately was unsuccessful until 2:30 a.m.
The police visited the owner's address early in the morning to identify the possible driver. Information about the identity of the driver is not yet available at this time. A police spokesman said they were currently investigating whether the incident could be classified as a hit-and-run. This depends on whether the accident caused external damage, such as to guide posts or other traffic facilities.
The accident investigation on the L128 was still in progress in the morning. Traffic was routed past the accident site in one lane, causing disruption. The investigation is ongoing to clarify the background to the incident. Subscribe to the Blue Light Report Saarland WhatsApp channel NOW and ALWAYS stay up to date directly (click here)
