Allianz CEO announces withdrawal: “I want to be there more for my children”

The CEO of Allianz Leben is making room for her successors. One reason is the many business trips. But she remains part of the team.

Katja de la Viña is giving up her CEO position at Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG after just two and a half years. They love their job, but also their children, writes the 44-year-old business economist on the career portal LinkedIn. The CEO announces that she will retire on January 1, 2025. As a mother, she wants to spend more time with her children. The alliance already has a successor in mind

“I made one of the hardest decisions of my life”

The outgoing CEO described her motivation in the LinkedIn post. The distance between Stuttgart and Munich as well as numerous business trips made it difficult to combine work and family. “I want to be there more for my children, have more time for them.” […] That’s why I made one of the hardest decisions in my life.”

Her successor will be Ruedi Kubat, current CEO of Allianz Switzerland. The outgoing CEO will serve in an advisory capacity for the next two months to ensure a smooth transition. “Ruedi is a great colleague with extensive experience in the life insurance business,” writes Müller on LinkedIn.

Who is Katja de la Viña?

The 44-year-old (born in 1979) can look back on a complete CV. This is another reason why the withdrawal is a surprise and a strong sign of the compatibility of family and career.

  • De la Viña received her business administration diploma in 2004. In 2006 and 2008, she took further exams as a tax advisor and auditor.
  • After completing her studies, the business economist joined KPMG AG in the same year. She stayed there until 2013.
  • The then 34-year-olds took on their first management positions at the auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers from 2013 to 2016.
  • De la Viña has been working at Allianz since 2016. From 2018 for the first time in a senior position in the Global Reward & Performance department and from April 2019 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
  • She was CEO of Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG from April 2022.

44-year-old looks back on successful years as CEO

The CEO draws a positive conclusion from her term of office: “As a market leader, we have set the right strategic course and continued to expand our strengths,” she sums up on LinkedIn. She looks with gratitude at her team, which has played a key role in the success of Allianz Leben. In fact, de la Viña is handing over a company in good shape to her successors.

Family and work: From 2025, the focus will be on children

As a mother, Katja da la Viña has now made a decision. After she has trained her successors, she will start part-time in the strategy, marketing and sales department.

In her contribution, the CEO also thanks her employer for their support. With the change to part-time, a clear perspective for resuming work and the binding exchange with colleagues and the employer, the trained business economist takes into account the most important principles for the compatibility of family and career.
