New Zealand filmmaker Martin Campbell is a quintessential action director. The now 81-year-old's best works are prime examples of tension, thrills, spectacular action and sweaty pace. Action fans love Vertical Limit, The Mask of Zorro and Escape from Absolom. And: Campbell is an expert when it comes to “Bond” premieres. He helped both Pierce Brosnan with “Goldeneye” and Daniel Craig with “Casino Royale” make their respective top debuts as Her Majesty's Agent. Now he could join Daisy Ridley as the new action star next “Cleaner”for which a first trailer has been released:
Oh yes, what's presented to the audience in the trailer looks really great – assuming you haven't lost interest again just by hearing the name Daisy Ridley. The 32-year-old has been unfairly attacked by some “Star Wars” fans since JJ Abrams chose her to be the new figurehead Rey of the galaxy far, far away in 2015 when she was just 23 years old and had little TV experience. Since then, many years and many films have passed. Ridley has since blossomed into a true character actress and most recently impressed with “The Young Woman and the Sea,” which you could stream on Disney+, “Magpie” and “The Awakening of the Huntress.” Plus, it's always a pleasure to see Clive Owen.
Although the premise has been well known since the action classic “Die Hard”, the majority of the imitations from the 90s can be forgotten with exceptions like “Sudden Death”. And to be honest, the whole thing seems surprisingly fresh again today for a change.

Joey (Daisy Ridley) lives in London as a building cleaner. If she's late for a job, she has to make up the missed time. Working together on “Cleaner” must have been great for Ridley and Campbell because with “Devotion” The next action thriller that the two of them will film is already coming up.
