CSU parliamentary group strengthens the regions and relies on subsidiarity

Munich (ots) –

In the summer of 2024, the European Commission presented ideas for the realignment of cohesion policy from 2028, which are aimed at centralizing the allocation of funds. This would mean that regions and countries will be left out in the future. The CSU parliamentary group rejected these considerations and called for an urgent motion to continue to advocate for the following key points at European level:

1. Ensure the proven integration of regions and countries into coherence policy
2. Continue to include more developed regions in the funding
3. Adequate funding and special consideration should be given to border regions
4. To reduce legal uncertainties and significantly reduce excessive bureaucracy in administrative procedures

The European policy spokesman for the CSU parliamentary group, Dr. Gerhard Hopp:

“We must not allow the proven integration of regions and countries to be undermined. Bavaria is in the heart of Europe and benefits from the means of coherence policy in many ways – and it must remain that way in the future. We as the CSU parliamentary group are committed to ensuring that the coherence policy continues to offer the regions leeway, which promotes developments that are particularly important for the Free State. A Europe of stronger regions is weakening the foundation of the European Union, which does not bring any efficiency gains but rather harms the local people.
