New cannon fodder awaits the Helldivers.
Sony and developer Arrowhead Studios announced a major update for the co-op shooter Helldivers 2 at the Game Awards. “Omens of Tyranny” will bring a lot of new content to the game and was released immediately after the announcement for Playstation 5 and PC.
The main attraction is probably the new enemy faction. Although “new” isn’t quite right here, because the Illuminati was already one of the enemies of the hell jumpers in the first Helldivers. Now they will also make the second part unsafe and attack in the galactic south of the map.
New Illuminate enemies require different tactics than previous enemies
Colleague Phil Elsner from GameStar was able to attend a presentation of the content before the unveiling and learned that there will be some new enemy types in the ranks of the Illuminate and that the new enemies have particularly strong energy shields. This should make new tactics necessary against the new aggressors.
Additional content included in the Omens of Tyranny update includes:
- Other planet type: In the colonies you primarily engage in urban battles in larger cities.
- New tactical equipment: Tank gun, portable energy shield and a jeep for up to four people
- New Warbond Battle Pass: Rewards include an electric shock baton, which is particularly effective in close combat.
- Destroyer Upgrade: The Helldivers command center will receive additional unlockable modules.

There were numerous leaks and rumors about the Illuminati months ago, but the official announcement is no longer a big surprise. The biggest Helldivers 2 update to date should definitely ensure that numerous hell jumpers who may have dropped out in the meantime will find their way into the co-op shooter again.
Helldivers 2 has been available for the PlayStation 5 and the PC since the beginning of February 2024, and in the meantime there were also rumors about an Xbox implementation. The start of the game was a bit bumpy because the servers were so overcrowded that the number of people playing at the same time had to be limited at times. Let's see if the Illuminati can give the game another high.
