Three years after the miniseries comeback “Dexter: New Blood”, the prequel series “Dexter: Original: Sin” is now diving into the past of the eponymous cult killer. And original star Michael C. Hall is back on board.
When the cult series “Dexter” ended in 2013 after a full eight seasons, many fans were disappointed and downright angry about the finale of the TV hit. The sequel series “Dexter: New Blood” started nine years later with the intention of giving the story about the forensic scientist/serial killer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) a worthy end and was ultimately so successful that This finally launched an entire “Dexter” franchise. In any case, there is no end in sight here in the near future.
The next stop in expanding the “Dexter” universe is now the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin“, which can be accessed worldwide on Paramount+ from today, December 13, 2024. Killer backstory: That’s what “Dexter: Original Sin” is all about
“Dexter: Original Sin” is set in 1991, 15 years before the start of the main series. Here we get to know the young Dexter (played by “Shadow And Bone” star Patrick Gibson) as a fresh university graduate who begins a forensics internship with his future permanent employer: the Miami police, for which his adoptive father Harry ( Christian Slater).
At the same time, Dexter's urge to kill becomes stronger and stronger. Harry therefore tried to channel these dark energies into a very specific channel. Following a strong code, Dexter is only supposed to kill killers who have flouted the law…
Michael C. Hall returns – and is already preparing the next “Dexter” series
In addition to Patrick Gibson and Christian Slater, the cast also includes “Grey's Anatomy” doctor Patrick Dempsey as police captain and “Buffy” vampire hunter Sarah Michelle Gellar as forensics chief. But fans of “Dexter” should be particularly happy that original star Michael C. Hall is back at the party – as the inner narrator voice of the young Dexter. But that's not all!
As the final trailer for “Dexter: Original Sin” embedded above reveals, If Hall can also be seen briefly in front of the camera, the prequel plot is apparently embedded in a near-death experience of the Dexter from the present. So we see how he survived the supposedly fatal shot at the end of “Dexter: New Blood” (for now) and is taken to the hospital – where he once again sees one of the most formative periods of his life pass him by.
With Dexter's rescue, the already announced next “Dexter” series may already be being prepared: “Dexter: Resurrection” should then really follow on from the “New Blood” finale and then put Michael C. Hall back in the spotlight as Dexter. As with the acclaimed first four seasons of “Dexter” as well as “New Blood” and “Original Sin,” Clyde Phillips is said to be primarily responsible as showrunner. You can read what Michael C. Hall himself had to say about his surprise comeback when the project was announced in the following article:
“It’s really cold out there!”: Michael C. Hall talks about serial killer Dexter’s surprise comeback – with multiple seasons?
