Bizarre corporate rituals in China – floor greetings to the boss, “death chilis” for failures

A recent video showing employees lying flat on the office floor to greet a company boss went viral on social media in mainland China, highlighting the toxic workplace rituals prevalent in some companies in mainland China.

The clip shared by a netizen shows about 20 employees at an educational institution in the southern city of Guangzhou lying face down in a corridor and shouting slogans to greet their boss during an inspection.

The employees looked up and shouted enthusiastically: “The Qiming branch welcomes Boss Huang!” Qiming branch, whether in life or in death, we will not let our work mission fail.”

On December 2, Liu, the company's legal representative, denied the incident and claimed that Huang had never attended such a welcoming ceremony.
