Harrison Ford, Snoop Dogg and Ella Purnell – the stars gave each other a hand at the Game Awards. This is the game of the year.

Millions of gamers around the world watched the Game Awards on the night of December 13th and perhaps even couldn't believe their eyes in some places. On the one hand, a number of stars from the world of acting and music gathered in Los Angeles, and on the other hand, there were announcements about the long-awaited games.

Top winner at the Game Awards

Presenter and video game journalist Geoff Keighley, 46, has been holding the Game Awards for ten years now and chooses the best games of the year in a variety of categories. The big stars of the evening were the games “Astro Bot” and “Balatro”. The cute platformer “Astro Bot” from Sony won several awards and was crowned “Game of the Year”.

The deck-building card game “Balatro” also achieved a triumph that was probably unexpected for many. The title, developed by a single person, received awards for “Indie Game of the Year” and Best Indie Debut, among others. German actress Melina Jürgens won the Best Performance award for her role in Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.

World premieres: “The Witcher IV” and “Elden Ring Nightreign”

The Game Awards are particularly popular with gamers for their numerous world premieres. Large companies present new games and trailers at the event. Accordingly, there was a big hit early on in the show: “The Witcher IV” was officially revealed. The visually impressive trailer shows that the character Ciri will be the protagonist in the game.

For many fans, “Elden Ring Nightreign” was probably a successful surprise. The game is a multiplayer title in the same universe as the popular role-playing game. Fantasy fans got their money's worth that evening, and the role-playing game “Game of Thrones: Kingsroad” was also announced for 2025. Well-known characters from the series – such as Jon Snow and Cersei Lannister – are also there.

This last big announcement of the evening made the hearts of PlayStation fans beat faster. Naughty Dog, the studio behind the “Uncharted” and “The Last of Us” franchises, announced “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.” The space adventure is about bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who is stranded on a distant planet.

Harrison Ford and Snoop Dogg at the Game Awards

Numerous personalities from the gaming environment and from the dream factory came to the award ceremony. Harrison Ford, 82, also made a surprise appearance. He awarded the prize for “Best Performance” to Melina Jürgens. Little faux pas: The Hollywood legend called “Melinda” onto the stage.

Rapper Snoop Dogg, 53, performed twice. On the one hand, he announced his son Cordell Broadus, 27, as one of the winners, and on the other hand, he presented the new song “Thank You” and his classic “Gin and Juice”. There was also a performance by Twenty One Pilots and “Fallout” was named best adaptation. The show's star, British actress Ella Purnell, 28, was also in attendance.
