A Penn State Harrisburg student died Wednesday, two days after shooting himself on the university's campus, authorities said.
Concerned about another student, a student called police at 8:52 p.m. Monday after finding the 20-year-old man lying on a bench on Olmsted Drive, according to Dauphin County police and campus police logs .
Dispatch said the man had been shot and was bleeding from the head from a wound that appeared to be self-inflicted. He was conscious but not alert when emergency responders arrived.
The 20-year-old was taken to a hospital, where he died on Wednesday. Campus police did not immediately respond to PennLive's request for further information.
Penn State Harrisburg confirmed the student's death in an email to the community Wednesday afternoon.
“During this difficult time, we are reminded of the importance of community and caring. Words alone cannot fully express the deep sadness we feel, both individually and as a united campus community,” the email said. “As we navigate the final days of the semester, we must continue to show each other grace, empathy and understanding.”
