Troubleshooting causes problems
Last Tuesday, Microsoft released its new updates for Windows for Patch Tuesday. This also included KB5048667 for Windows 11 24H4. This closed some security gaps in the system and fixed some bugs. But the update also seems to cause serious problems, as Windows Latest reports.
Installation aborts and reduced performance
Users are said to experience problems with installation and operation after the patch has been applied. Accordingly, some users report that the installation of KB5048667 fails. Terminations occur at different times. Some users report an installation error at 100 percent, for others the update was stopped earlier. Windows Latest was already able to reproduce the problem as part of a test in a virtual environment.
The update is also expected to affect the performance of some CPUs. After installation, noticeable symptoms such as stuttering or long system response times occur after some time in operation. A restart only solves the problem temporarily.
Therefore, it is suspected that there may be issues with the CPU scheduler introduced with KB5048667 on Windows 11 24H2. If you need high performance, you can try downgrading back to the original version of Windows. If you haven't installed the update yet, you should consider waiting a while to see whether the problems occur with other users or on a larger scale.
Update blocks for users
There have been problems with Windows 11 24H2 since its introduction for x86 PCs in early October. Due to several critical errors, Microsoft was forced to set up a number of update blocks for affected users. With KB5048667 one of these so-called safeguard holds has been lifted again. In total, there are still ten of these update blockages that prevent users from installing Windows 11 24H2 on their compatible computers.
