SOUTHFIELD, MI – Kentia Fearn was sentenced to three months in the Oakland County Jail on Friday and received three years of probation in connection with her friend's death, according to Fox 2 Detroit. Fearn, 24, of Wayne, pleaded no contest in October to charges of leaving the scene of a fatal accident and operating while intoxicated in connection with the June 3, 2023 incident.
Fearn was accused of leaving the scene after her friend Mia Kanu fell from a vehicle driven by Fearn. Kanu, 23, was found by a passerby on the street along Providence Drive and taken to a hospital, but died several days later as a result of injuries she sustained in the fall.
Fearn didn't stop after Kanu fell and failed to report the incident to the police. Three months after the incident, Fearn was arrested and charged in the matter, but more than a year passed before Fearn filed her no contest vote.
A no-contest plea is not an admission of guilt, but is treated as such for sentencing purposes.
