How murder laws work in Ohio | Video
There is no way to charge first degree murder in Ohio. Here's how someone can be charged with murder or manslaughter in Ohio.
A Columbus woman has been charged with murder for shooting a man to death in the city's northeast earlier this month.
Brittney Nicole McBride, 34, of the Shepard neighborhood in northeast Columbus, is charged with murder in the death of 36-year-old Dajuan Rios, also of the Shepard neighborhood in northeast Columbus.
Columbus police said they responded to a report of a shooting in the 800 block of Murray Avenue just before 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 3. Upon arrival, officers found Rios suffering from a gunshot wound. Columbus Fire Department paramedics transported Rios in critical condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center downtown, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:21 a.m.
McBride is currently being held in the Franklin County Jail and her arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to Franklin County court records.
