Forget the usual beach holiday in Mallorca: these four innovative travel trends bring a welcome change to holiday planning for 2025.
The last few weeks of the year are the perfect time to plan your next trip. Where should we go in 2025 – to Italy or Spain again? Anyone looking for fresh inspiration can be inspired by brand new travel trends. This can really spice up your vacation planning. Bet you want to try out the following four unusual trends right now?
1. Car camping
Traveling with a caravan or camper is a thing of the past: thanks to this new trend, camping fans don't have to buy an expensive motorhome. Instead, your own vehicle is equipped so that you can sleep in it and travel with it. Car camping is much more minimalist and is particularly suitable for weekend or short trips. Due to the limited space, the concept is particularly interesting for solo travelers or couples who can cope with a little less comfort.
Because even if #VanLife influencers make it look different: you don't need an elaborately converted VW bus or an expensive Mercedes Sprinter to experience an unforgettable camping holiday.
2. Set jetting
Regardless of whether it is “Lord of the Rings”, “Emily in Paris” or “Bridgerton”: traveling allows holidaymakers to marvel at the famous locations of their favorite series and films. Well, a flight to New Zealand is of course significantly more expensive than a train ride to Paris. But for many fans, a dream comes true when they can admire the atmospheric backdrop of their beloved series or film series up close.
The travel apps Expedia and HomeAway report in their surprising travel trend report that two thirds of travelers worldwide have already been inspired by films, TV or streaming productions when planning their trip. The trend has long since arrived in Germany too. In this country, series and the like actually have a significantly greater influence on travel planning than social media (63 percent vs. 49 percent).
According to the forecast, some filming locations will be particularly in demand next year. These include New York (“And Just Like That…”), Scotland (“The Traitors”) and the US states of Montana and Wyoming (“Yellowstone”). The new season of the reality show “The Real Housewives of Dubai” will once again attract many fans to the desert emirate.

3. JOMO Travel
The phenomenon FOMO (“Fear of Missing out”) has social media users firmly in its grip. JOMO trips (“Joy of Missing out”) are intended to help. This is all about the “joy of missing out”. It is also a countermovement to FOMO. The focus is on rest and relaxation, and you can put your cell phone away. In contrast to packed sightseeing trips, the aim is not to visit as many spectacular locations as possible.
JOMO holidays take place in a quiet and decelerated environment, such as in a holiday home with a pool or by a remote lake or forest. According to the trend survey by HomeAway Younger people in particular long to miss out on more and to withdraw. 62 percent consider JOMO-Travel to be a good way to reduce stress and anxiety.
4. Sexual wellness
Health trips are now commonplace. But have you ever heard of “sexual wellness” retreats? The travel magazine Condé Nast Traveler sees this as a growing travel trend. “Sexual satisfaction is closely related to relationship satisfaction and psychological well-being,” says Dr. Karen Gurney, clinical psychologist and psychosexologist.
The trend is a holistic concept that also focuses on “connection, self-esteem and satisfaction with one’s own sexuality”. Offers include coaching, erotic massages and discussions about boundaries and body image. Appropriate retreats can be booked by singles and couples. Condé Nast Traveler expects the global market for this art of vacation to reach $55 billion by 2028.
