Gigler moves into the semi-finals with a record over 50 m free crawl

Austria's swimmers will be represented as a duo in the evening session (from 5:30 p.m., live on ORF Sport +) on the penultimate day of the Short Course World Championships in Budapest. In addition to Simon Bucher in the 100 m dolphin, there is Heiko Gigler, who qualified for the semi-finals in 16th place on Saturday morning with a red-white-red record in the 50 m free crawl. In 21.19 seconds he improved his own record by 0.06 seconds.

“I’m happy to take the third semi-final here in Budapest, especially the Austrian record,” said Gigler after what he said was not an ideal race. “I'm looking forward to the afternoon and think I can buy a little more.” I hope I can improve the record again. Everything else is a bonus.”

Lena Kreundl ended her career with 42nd place in the 50 m freestyle (42nd). The 27-year-old will now concentrate fully on her job as a police officer. Gigler and Bernhard Reitshammer were eliminated in the 50 m breaststroke with the same time of 26.34 and 20th place.
