More and more people involved in the alleged coup attempt are becoming known. Former President Jair Bolsonaro is accused of planning a coup after his opponent Lula da Silva's election victory.
In Brazil, former defense minister Walter Braga Netto was arrested for suspected involvement in an attempted coup. The army announced this on Saturday. Braga Netto served as ex-President Jair Bolsonaro's chief of staff and was his candidate for vice president in the 2022 election. Investigators accused him of playing a central role in the planned coup. The ex-minister denies the allegations.
In November, police accused Braga Netto, along with right-wing populist Bolsonaro, other cabinet members and former military commanders, of plotting a coup. The aim was to force President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva out of office after his election victory in 2022. (APA)
