An investigation has been launched after at least four people were killed in a shooting at a refugee camp in France.
Two security guards and two migrants were killed in the incident, which occurred at around 3pm today in Loon-Plage, near Dunkirk.
A fifth victim was found in Wormhout, about 16 miles from the camp. Police told French media that they received reports of gunshots and an unconscious person about an hour before the shooting in Loon-Plage.
Officers found a 29-year-old man who had been shot multiple times, including in the head, France Info reports. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 22-year-old man, who is reportedly a French citizen, has turned himself in at the Ghyvelde police station over the incidents, CNews reports, while France Bleu reports that three weapons were found in his car.
According to the refugee aid organization Care4Calais, refugees have been camping in the Mardyck area for years.
They are predominantly “Kurdish or Afghan and many of them are families with small children,” according to the charity.
