Berlin (dpa) – Suspected right-wing radicals have members of the SPD attacked. The SPD Steglitz-Zehlendorf announced on the Instagram platform that a party member was thrown to the ground and kicked in the stomach and face in the Lichterfelde district. Upon request, the police announced that the attackers were people who were on their way to a right-wing demonstration in the districts of Friedrichshain and Lichtenberg would have found. The incident on Kranoldplatz near Lichterfelde-Ost train station at midday initially resulted in verbal disputes with people who were running an SPD stand, a police spokesman said in the evening. Afterwards, physical injuries occurred against the stand operators. Five people were arrested and taken to a prisoner collection point, it was said in the evening.
The SPD wrote on Instagram that the attackers were right-wing radicals. Among those attacked was the chairwoman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district council, Carolyn Macmillan. She was quoted in the post as saying she was still in shock. The district chairman Ruppert Stüwe told the article: “The election campaign in Steglitz-Zehlendorf begins with attacks by Nazis against democracy.” Both thanked the police, who reacted quickly.
