A leaked model shows the first details about the Switch 2. Despite similarities to the old Nintendo console, there are innovations that are said to be a “slam dunk”.
Nintendo remains silent about the successor console to the popular Switch. It is all the more surprising that the well-known tech YouTuber “SwitchUP” presents an unofficial model of the “Switch 2”. According to the accessory manufacturer, the replica is based on leaked specifications – after all, production in Asia is in full swing for the 2025 release. Although it is visually very reminiscent of the old Switch, there are differences that are immediately noticeable to SwitchUP:
- Larger display: The Switch 2's screen is said to be around half an inch wider (just over a centimeter), making the console appear larger overall. The edges (bezel) have been made significantly narrower compared to the OLED model.
- More ergonomic Joy-Cons: The Joy-Cons are slightly larger and should fit better in the hand. Rounded edges and an additional control element on the right side could further improve the gaming experience.
- USB-C port remains at the top The charging port remains in its previous position, ensuring better docking compatibility. This could mean that the current dock is still usable.
- Card slot and backwards compatibility: The card slot is very similar to that of the Switch 1 – backwards compatibility with Switch 1 games has been officially confirmed by Nintendo.
- Weight and size: Despite the larger display and a slightly wider design, the thickness remains almost identical. The weight is supposedly between the Switch OLED and the Steam Deck.
