A leaked model shows the first details about the Switch 2. Despite similarities to the old Nintendo console, there are innovations that are said to be a “slam dunk”.
Nintendo remains silent about the successor console to the popular Switch. It is all the more surprising that the well-known tech YouTuber “SwitchUP” presents an unofficial model of the “Switch 2”. According to the accessory manufacturer, the replica is based on leaked specifications – after all, production in Asia is in full swing for the 2025 release. Although it is not official hardware, the model offers a first impression of what Nintendo's new console could look and feel like . Here are the biggest differences from the Switch 1.
“Feels like a Switch” – 5 things that should be different with the successor console
What is (supposedly) different about the Switch 2? The model shown is a so-called “mockup” – a replica based on leaked specifications. Such prototypes are often used at trade fairs or by accessory manufacturers to specifically adapt products such as protective cases or docking stations. Although it is visually very reminiscent of the old Switch, there are differences that are immediately noticeable to SwitchUP:
- Larger display: The Switch 2's screen is said to be around half an inch wider (just over a centimeter), making the console appear larger overall. The edges (bezel) have been made significantly narrower compared to the OLED model.
- More ergonomic Joy-Cons: The Joy-Cons are slightly larger and should fit better in the hand. Rounded edges and an additional control element on the right side could further improve the gaming experience.
- USB-C port remains at the top The charging port remains in its previous position, ensuring better docking compatibility. This could mean that the current dock is still usable.
- Card slot and backwards compatibility: The card slot is very similar to that of the Switch 1 – backwards compatibility with Switch 1 games has been officially confirmed by Nintendo.
- Weight and size: Despite the larger display and a slightly wider design, the thickness remains almost identical. The weight is supposedly between the Switch OLED and the Steam Deck.

Nintendo is adamantly silent about the Switch 2 – Is there no official information about the release?
What remains unclear? Although the model is based on leaked plans from China, many details remain speculation. Technical specifications in particular, such as the performance or new functions of the Joy-Cons, remain unconfirmed. Nintendo itself has not yet commented – caution is also advised. Here you can find all the information about the price and release of the Switch 2 that is currently circulating.
This is what Nintendo fans say about the mockup: Reactions to the unofficial model are mixed – between enthusiasm and skepticism. Here are some of the most exciting comments from the community about the video:
- “Nintendo's ninjas are definitely not happy. Come on, Nintendo, finally make an announcement!” says user tdotran.
- “This is better than constantly posting rumors for clickbait.” Thanks for something concrete!” – thanks marus3953.
- “I love the bigger screen, but I'm worried about the battery life.” – says Sky-HighSundae.
- “This design could be a hit. Hopefully the games keep their promises.” – writes user EpicRegalia.

Whether the Switch 2 will actually look like this model remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the device shown gives fans hope for a console that is larger, more powerful and yet remains familiar. With Nintendo remaining silent as usual, many hopeful fans have little choice but to wait or soak up every Switch 2 leak like a sponge.
