The international character is also noticeable on the set. “It's crazy how the set was recreated,” says Van Rampelberg as an example: “From the floor to the roof: everything is perfect. You feel like it's big. But for a project like this you also need a budget to make it believable.” It will be shot in Belgium and Ireland.
Does the internationality create a certain distance? “No, it's a combination of different advantages, because the series was created in Belgium,” says director Herbots: “The collaboration is a little more friendly here, but on the other hand we have big names on the set and the foreign sets offer a lot of opportunities .” .”
As a production house, Panenka is very proud of this good collaboration: “This allows us to reach a large market area.” We are spread across 10 countries, which is around 135 million people who can watch the series.”
“This is not a crime thriller” can be seen from 2025 on VRT 1 and VRT MAX as well as on ZDF or in the ZDF media library. The series is a Panenka production in co-production with VRT, RTL, Proximus, New8 and Deadpan Pictures, with support from Creative Europe MEDIA, Eurimages, the Flanders Audiovisual Fund (VAF), Screen Flanders, Screen Ireland, Screen Brussels and the Belgian tax authority.
