“Sugarcane – On the Trail of the Truth” (Disney+)

In 2021, the remains of children were discovered on the grounds of a boarding school in Canada. It was the start of a series of horror discoveries at other schools of this art in the country. They were indigenous children who had been taken from their native families in order to adapt them to Christian-Western society, as it was said. In the boarding schools they experienced violence, abuse, hunger and disease. Many stars and were buried in mass graves. The documentary “Sugarcane – On the Trail of the Truth” by Emily Kassie and Julian Brave NoiseCat sees it as cultural genocide. Your film provides insights into the fate of the people of the Williams Lake First Nation in British Columbia. For Brave NoiseCat it was a very personal work as members of his family attended such a boarding school. The work received a directing award at the Sundance Film Festival and can now be seen on Disney+.

“Dexter: Original Sin” (Paramount+)

The popular thriller series about the serial killer “Dexter” returns – albeit as a prequel – and without Michael C. Hall in the title role. In “Dexter: Original Sin” Patrick Gibson (“Shadow and Bone”) plays the young Dexter Morgan. The ten-part series takes place in Miami in 1991 – 15 years before the start of the classic “Dexter” series – and follows Dexter on his path from student to vengeful serial killer. Since he can no longer ignore his bloodthirsty urges, Dexter must learn to control them. Under his father's supervision, Harry adopts a code designed to help him find and kill people without being targeted by investigators. A real challenge for young Dexter, especially when he begins a forensic internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. Streaming on Paramount+ since December 13th.

Mammals are among the most successful creatures that evolution has produced. Using the latest camera technology, the series presents amazing behaviors, some of which have never been captured on camera before. The co-production of the ZDF series “Terra X” with the BBC describes, among other things, the amazing strategies they have developed to master life in water, even though they need air to breathe. Now in the ZDF media library – it will also be broadcast on classic ZDF from January 1st (7:15 p.m.).
