Singer Zange was inspired to write a song about an ex-girlfriend who claimed she was pregnant and after nine months the pregnancy did not bear fruit.
This song was recorded by several producers, but none of the versions had any impact. These producers included Harry Johnson (Harry J), Clifton “Specialist” Dillon and Maurice “Black Scorpio” Johnson.
DJ Chaka Demus, whose verses are part of the hit song Murder she wrotewhich were originally recorded by producer Bobby Digital, said his verse was inspired by someone he said had a “pretty face but a bad personality”.
But in 1992, Zange and Chaka Demus decided to record their songs together and this time it was well received by music lovers Murder she wrote.
“We first performed the song at a show in Florida and decided to record the song together upon our return to Jamaica. We were at Sonic Sounds on Retirement Road and recorded with Sly and Robbie. But we weren't in a voicing box like we were with most of the songs. Sly they sat down at a desk and I had the microphone in my hand and handed it to Tongs, and then we just passed the microphone around while we played our parts of the song. That’s how the song was recorded,” said Chaka Demus Jamaica Observer in an interview on Sunday.
Murder she wrote was published in the UK 30 years ago. On November 15, the song was certified Platinum in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry for sales and streaming figures of over 600,000 units.
It is the duo's second platinum award. They received platinum certification in 1994 for their chart-topping debut album tease me, which also contains the hit Murder she wrote.
“Man, right now this song is for me and I feel good. It's good to have a good song and good producers. Thank God it happened and John Public just accepted the song,” explained Chaka Demus.
He told that observer that at the time the song was recorded, he had no idea that it would become the international hit that it became.
“We never knew it would be this big. I know it was a good song, and one day when we were driving, Junie Starr was driving next to us and told us that the song was messing up England. We didn’t expect this to happen,” Scissors shared.
Chaka Demus said he never gets tired of performing Murder she wrote. He also added that the success of the song changed his life forever.
“The song helped us a lot financially. As far as popularity goes, it has passed through different generations of music lovers. “It's a great song and we never get tired of performing it,” he explained.
Murder she wrotewas first released in 1992, the same year Zange recorded a cover of Toots Hibbert's song Bam Bam. The song reached the top of the local charts and was later picked up by Mango Records, a subsidiary of Island Records.
Murder She Wrote reached number 27 on the UK Singles Chart in early 1994 and also charted at number 72 on the Eurochart Hot 100, number 57 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 5 on the Billboard Rap Songs chart and number 39 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip Chart. Hop Songs Chart.
