OpenAI expands ChatGPT with functions that make it easier to use in everyday life. Most recently, “Projects” were introduced as part of the December series, which allows chat histories and files on specific topics to be collected in one place. In addition, all users can now use the canvas interface.
The projects are a kind of storage for files and chat histories on a topic. The files can be documents, code files or images. If these are stored in the project, ChatGPT can access the corresponding content. In addition, it is possible to store specific prompts for a project in order to control the behavior of ChatGPT within the context of the respective project.
At its core, it is also a simpler version of the GPT. These specific conditions allow ChatGPT to be customized now.
The projects are initially available to users of paid subscriptions, as well as ChatGPT Plus, Pro and Teams. Users of the Enterprise and Edu versions will receive access in January, and the free ChatGPT version will follow soon.
Canvas for everyone
What also works under projects is the canvas. This is an advanced user interface that makes it easier to edit generated text or code. For example, it is possible to mark certain sections and have them changed. Until then, Canvas was only available to users of the paid ChatGPT versions, but now everyone can use it. In addition, Python code can now be executed directly in the canvas.
OpenAI's December Announcements: Sora and ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence
In December, OpenAI announced a total of twelve small and large innovations, and seven have already been published. The official launch of Sora received a lot of attention. With the generative video system it is possible to create videos using text or image input. Integrated editors also allow you to edit the videos. However, Sora is not yet available everywhere, so the launch in the EU is still pending.
The new ChatGPT Pro subscription service for $200 per month and the latest o1 model, the integration of ChatGPT into Apple Intelligence and a screen sharing function for the extended voice mode were also presented.
