BMW launches major recall: Defective part can affect steering

BMW has to recall around 22,00 vehicles from the 5 Series and 7 Series model series to workshops worldwide. A faulty double universal joint could break and affect steering.

The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) reports that 21,955 5 and 7 series cars worldwide are affected. “Auto Motor und Sport” reports that these were produced between June and September 2024. In Germany, the recall affects 4,950 vehicles.

Affected are the 5 Series Sedan (G60), the 5 Series Touring (G61), the M5 Sedan (G90), the M5 Touring (G99) as well as the 7 Series Sedan (G70) and G73. Only one vehicle, the BMW M5 Touring (G90) and the BMW 7 Series Security Sedan (G73), is affected.

Accidents due to these problems have not yet been reported. The double universal joint is checked in the workshops and replaced if necessary.

The owners of the affected vehicles will be informed via the KBA and asked to come to the workshops. Depending on the model, replacing the part takes between 30 minutes and 5.5 hours.
