Over the next two days, lawyers representing sub-postmasters and postmasters who were wrongly prosecuted as a result of the faulty Horizon IT system will reflect on the evidence presented as part of the investigation.

The inquiry, led by Sir Wyn Williams, has been gathering evidence since February 2022 into the decisions that led to the wrongful convictions.

Closing statements will address all phases of the investigation, including statements from former and current politicians, executives who served in the highest ranks of the Postal Service during the scandal, and former subpostmasters and postmasters.

More than 900 subpostmasters have been prosecuted for theft based on false information from the Horizon computer system. It has been described as the most widespread miscarriage of justice in the United Kingdom.

The post office itself brought many cases to court and prosecuted 700 people between 1999 and 2015. A further 283 cases were lodged by other bodies, including the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
