Dennis Schröder from Braunschweig changed teams again in the NBA and played for the Golden State Warriors alongside superstar Stephen Curry.
The move from the east to the west coast of the USA is Schröder's fourth change this season: The Braunschweig star will play for the Golden State Warriors in San Francisco in the future. The captain of the German national basketball team received the news from his agent shortly after dinner.
“The reactions to it were initially very shocking. Being traded so early, after 25 or 26 games, is tough,” said Schröder to the German Press Agency about the moments in which he said goodbye to his now former teammates. At the same time, the 31-year-old from Braunschweig also saw the Advent surprise as a good sign: “Of course it says how much they want you. At the end of the day, it’s very, very cool.”
Warriors veteran Draymond Green emphasized: “We didn’t bring him in just to fit in. We play basketball in a way that he doesn't play. I don't think he has to adapt to us. We have to adapt to it. Because he has things that we lack, that we are not good at.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr and Schröder share the same agents, so the interest wasn't entirely surprising. On Saturday, US media reported on the next exchange, and it has been official since Sunday. Schröder's debut with the Warriors is expected to take place on Thursday on the road against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Despite a difficult stretch, the Warriors remain on course for the playoffs and could give Schröder a real chance to win his first NBA title. However, his contract from Brooklyn expires at the end of the season, so it remains unclear how long he will remain in San Francisco.
